"This is not a small child" - Dr. Rabner

Today we had an appointment with our obstetrician, one of the last pre-baby. The baby is big. I shouldn't be surprised... I have been asked by more than one occasion by random people if I am having twins. I was secretly starting to worry that maybe they had missed a second baby hiding out in there.

The doctor assures me, however, there is just one, but he does measure at the very top of the "normal" range. Current estimated weight: 3.9 kilos (about 8.5 lbs). GREAT.
Baby: my first act of discipline is to order you not to grow any more until after you are born!

Otherwise, everything is progressing quite normally. The doctor has been following a slight red flag- one of the baby's kidneys is dilated, which means waste isn't being processed out of the body the way it should. They have assured us it is not a terribly emergent situation, but because it hasn't resolved itself on its own (as it often does), the doctors have decided to induce labor on the 18th (due date) if it hasn't happened naturally before hand. This will enable them to identify and treat whatever is causing the dilation sooner rather than later.

We will keep everyone posted!
The hospital kindly has a gallery of all newborns, so you can check there for baby's first picture/stats:
